DOLLY: A True Original Musical

DOLLY: A True Original Musical tells the life story of country music legend Dolly Parton, from her childhood in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to international fame.

Told through Parton’s own music and words, the show explores the ambition, setbacks and personal choices behind her public image.

The score combines some of Parton’s best-known songs, including “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “9 to 5,” with new music written especially for the stage. Parton co-wrote the book with Maria S. Schlatter. Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher directs, with choreography by Mandy Moore and music supervision by Stephen Oremus.

The musical received its world premiere at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville in 2025, following earlier development under the titles Hello, I’m Dolly and Dolly: An Original Musical.

The Broadway production is scheduled to begin previews at the St. James Theatre on December 7, 2026, with an official opening on January 19, 2027.
