A huge stage tease has just dropped for New York, and it sounds like one to watch.
The show is Les Misérables, with Sir Cameron Mackintosh hinting that a very different plan could land in the city in about two years.
Speaking to NY1’s Frank DiLella, Mackintosh said: “There is a very exciting entirely different plan for New York to happen in two years time, not by me, but it’s something that I wholeheartedly back.
“It’s a wonderful idea and it would be utterly different. Something to look forward to.”
He did not share a title or theater, so we should be careful for now, but the timing would point to 2028 if it goes ahead.
The tease comes while Les Misérables: The Arena Concert Spectacular is playing Radio City Music Hall through August 9 after a two-year world tour.
That show puts the famous score up front with a full visible orchestra, with several stars taking turns as Jean Valjean including Alfie Boe in his final appearance in the show.
Us Les Mis fans are already asking if this could be an immersive take, partly because Masquerade has brought The Phantom of the Opera into a fresh off-Broadway setup.
Or maybe we’ll be getting a Les Mis: The Jellicle Ball?
