Disney’s live-action Aladdin sequel is officially back on track, with filming expected to begin in January 2026.
Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith are all expected to return, reprising their roles as Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie.
The original movie arrived in 2019 with work on a sequel beginning shortly after.
While it won’t be a direct remake of the animated sequels like The Return of Jafar or Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the new film is expected to pull some ideas from those stories.
John Gatins and Andrea Berloff are attached as writers, with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich returning as producers. Guy Ritchie, who directed the first film, is also expected to return.
The movie faced some uncertainty over the years, especially during the Hollywood strikes, but Mena Massoud assured fans in 2023 that a sequel was still in the works.
With Production List reporting that filming is now scheduled to kick off right at the start of 2026, everything is finally lining up.
After the massive success of the first film, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide, Disney is betting on another big return to Agrabah.
