A new stage musical based on Danish pop group AQUA is officially on the way.
Titled AQUA THE MUSICAL, the show will premiere in Copenhagen in 2028 and is already setting its sights on Broadway, the West End, and other major cities like Toronto and Hamburg.
The group has given full approval for their story and music to be brought to life on stage, with the production being led by Danish company AHA Creations, which now holds the global rights to the title for the next 25 years.
Known for hits like “Barbie Girl” and their over-the-top pop style, AQUA made a lasting mark on the global music scene in the late ‘90s.
The show is being developed by Claus Reenberg, Mads Æbeløe, and Nikolaj Tarp, with direction by Thomas Agerholm and set design by Benjamin La Cour.
Aqua themselves siad: “We’ve had a wild ride, full of experiences that have never really been told before. Now, we’re incredibly excited to relive them as a musical, together with the rest of the world.
“We’re certain it will be both fun and moving, and at the same time a reminder of everything we’ve been through and how privileged we’ve been. If AHA Creations and the rest of the team manage to capture even a fraction of what it felt like, we can promise it will be entertaining – and something a little out of the ordinary.”
