A musical adaptation of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), one of Indian cinema’s all-time greatest blockbusters, is to make its a debut in the UK.
Entitled Come Fall in Love, the stage adaptation will be directed by Aditya Chopra, the same visionary behind the 1995 Bollywood hit.
Set to premiere at Manchester’s Opera House, Come Fall in Love will open on 29 May 2025, with tickets available from 4 October from ATG Tickets. It will run through 21 June 2025.
The musical will debut in the UK, with the storyline now centred on Simran, a British Indian woman.
She faces an arranged marriage with a family friend in India, but everything changes when she falls for a British man named Roger.
A fresh take on the classic, the musical seeks to blend Indian heritage with Western themes.
Since its release nearly three decades ago, DDLJ has been continuously playing in Mumbai, making it the longest-running film in Indian cinema history.
Now, it’s being brought to life for the stage, with a dazzling 18-song score composed by Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani.
The book and lyrics come from Nell Benjamin, known for her work on Mean Girls and Legally Blonde.
The creative team behind the production is packed with talent, including Tony Award-winning choreographer Rob Ashford (Disney’s Frozen), Indian dance associate choreographer Shruti Merchant (Taj Express), and scenic designer Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical).
The casting is being handled by David Grindrod, with Chopra’s Yash Raj Films producing the project.
