Cynthia Erivo Sheds Tears as School Choir Surprises Her With Wicked Song

Cynthia Erivo, dressed in all black, singing

Broadway sensation Cynthia Erivo made a surprise trip back to her London roots, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

During a special visit to La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls’ School, Cynthia, a Tony-winning star and future Elphaba in Wicked: For Good, joined a student choir rehearsal just in time for a heartfelt rendition of the musical’s moving anthem For Good.

The students kicked things off, but when Cynthia stepped in to sing, the moment became unforgettable - not least for Cynthia, who was visibly moved.

Wicked: For Good, the much-anticipated screen adaptation, is set to hit theaters on November 21, with early screenings already lighting up box offices.

The film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia as Elphaba.

Also joining the cast are Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Marissa Bode – who will make history as the first wheelchair-using actor to play Nessarose.

The adaptation features new tunes by Stephen Schwartz, and Jon M. Chu is in the director’s chair.

Since its 2003 debut on Broadway, Wicked has reimagined The Wizard of Oz, cementing itself as the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history.
