Disney confirms The Greatest Showman musical adaptation is on the way
The wildly popular film The Greatest Showman is making the leap from screen to stage.
Disney has just revealed at D23 that the 2017 blockbuster, which stars Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, Zac Efron, and Keala Settle, will soon be adapted into a full-fledged stage musical.
The original film, which tells the captivating story of circus impresario PT Barnum, was a massive hit, earning a staggering $435 million worldwide.
The soundtrack is packed with memorable tunes like “The Greatest Show”, “A Million Dreams”, “Rewrite the Stars”, and “From Now On,” all of which are set to make their way into the stage production.
Behind the music are the dynamic duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the composers responsible for other Broadway favourites such as Dear Evan Hansen, Dogfight, and A Christmas Story.
Disney confirmed the stage adaptation with a brief statement, teasing us with promises of more details to come: “The stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman, featuring the Academy Award-nominated songs of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, will announce production timetable, creative team, and cast at a later date.”
For those wondering, this new stage production is entirely separate from the upcoming circus show Come Alive!, which also features music from the film and is set to open this autumn.
