Disney Developing Live-Action Gaston Movie

Animated Gaston in the original Beauty and the Beast movie

Disney is at it again, reimagining another of its classic animated characters for the big screen.

This time, the spotlight is on Gaston, the memorable villain from Beauty and the Beast, as the studio begins early development on a live-action film centered around the boastful antagonist.

Dave Callaham has been tapped to write the script, while Michelle Rejwan is set to produce, as per Deadline.

Neither a director nor a star has been attached yet, but Disney insiders say the project will feature a “swashbuckling” tone and introduce a new actor as Gaston.

Luke Evans previously played Gaston in the 2017 live-action adaptation of the original film, a box office smash that earned over $1 billion worldwide.

Gaston made his debut in Disney’s 1992 animated film as the arrogant and relentless hunter vying for Belle’s affection.

His rivalry with The Beast and over-the-top personality cemented him as one of Disney’s most recognizable villains.

After that, a proposed Gaston-focused TV series with Evans was in the works but ultimately did not move forward.

No release window has been set.
