“We’re trying to develop it into a Broadway show,” Ferrell said, explaining that he’d taken the creative team, including a songwriter and director, to experience Eurovision firsthand.

He added: “My wife happens to be Swedish, so Malmo, Sweden, Eurovision… and here we are now.”

The news is bound to delight fans of the 2020 musical comedy, which follows the misadventures of Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdóttir—played by Ferrell and Rachel McAdams—on their chaotic journey to compete at Eurovision.

The film quickly found a loyal following upon its Netflix release on 26 June 2020.

Directed by David Dobkin and written by Harper Steele and Ferrell himself, the movie also starred Pierce Brosnan, Dan Stevens, and Demi Lovato.

It picked up an Oscar nod for one of its original songs, Husavik, performed by Ferrell and Molly Sandén.

Beyond the reveal that work is underway, there’s no word yet on casting, timelines, or how closely the stage version will stick to the original film.
