Hadestown has achieved another remarkable milestone, with the acclaimed stage film making history at the box office and proving the award-winning musical is more popular than ever.
Hadestown: The Musical has officially become the highest-grossing live stage capture of all time after earning $10.2 million during its opening weekend across cinemas in North America.
The record-breaking debut sees it overtake Hamilton’s previous record of $10.1 million, making it the biggest opening ever for a professionally filmed stage production.
The demand has been so strong that extra screenings have already been added, despite the release originally being planned as a limited cinema event.
The film reunites the original Broadway stars Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone and Patrick Page as Hades.
Captured during the show’s special West End run at London’s Lyric Theatre in 2025, the production also features the full West End company, including Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne and Allie Daniel as the Fates, Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Ryesha Higgs, Waylon Jacobs and Christopher Short as the Workers, alongside Lucinda Buckley, Francessca Daniella-Baker, Winny Herbert and Miriam Nyarko as the Swings.
More international releases are on the way, including its UK cinema release this October.
