A cast of Dolly Parton musical Here You Come Again walked off stage after homophobic abuse was hurled at them.
The performance in Manchester, England as part of the show’s UK tour was suspended mid-show following the incident.
Stevie Webb, an actor in the production said an incident at the Opera House in Manchester led to the entire cast leaving the stage “because a woman was so disgusted there was a gay character on the stage”.
Webb shared on TikTok that the incident happened last Wednesday and was followed by more disruption on Saturday when a man had to be removed from the audience.
In a social media post, the show’s producers made their stance clear, saying: “Individuals making such comments are not welcome at our show. They have been – and will be – ejected from the theatre immediately.
“We stand against all forms of prejudice and are extremely proud of the inclusivity and respect which Here You Come Again celebrates.”
Authorised by Dolly Parton, Here You Come Again features beloved hits such as “Jolene”, “9 to 5”, and “I Will Always Love You”. The story follows a diehard Dolly fan who imagines the country music icon helping him navigate life’s struggles.
The production concludes its UK tour with stops in Sunderland and Wimbledon later this month.
