James Monroe Iglehart, celebrated for his Tony-winning performance, is set to embody jazz legend Louis Armstrong in the upcoming Broadway musical, A Wonderful World.
The production is scheduled to debut this autumn, with performances kicking off at Studio 54 on October 16 and the official opening night slated for November 11.
The musical, featuring a book by Aurin Squire, will showcase songs Louis Armstrong made famous, including classics such as “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” “What a Wonderful World,” and “When You’re Smiling.”
Directed by Christopher Renshaw, who also conceived the show alongside Andrew Delaplaine, A Wonderful World promises to offer audiences a deep dive into the life and era of the iconic trumpeter.
After its world premiere at Miami New Drama in 2021, the show has enjoyed successful runs at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans and the Cadillac Palace in Chicago throughout 2023.
While the complete cast and creative team are yet to be announced, the anticipation for this musical portrayal of Armstrong’s life is already high.
