Jo – The Little Women Musical, a new stage adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved Little Women, is slated to make its world premiere in the West End in 2025.
This new musical features a score by Dan Redfeld, with a book and lyrics by Christina Harding and John Gabriel Koladziej.
The story focuses on the journey of Jo March, a spirited young woman aspiring to write a story for her generation, set against the background of her family’s complex relationships and her sorrow after the loss of her sister Beth.
Before the production hits the stage, a full score concept album will be recorded in January at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios, featuring a 29-piece orchestra and a cast of international talent including Broadway and West End stars Christine Allado, Chris Mann, Sophie Pollono, Eleanor Grant, Rob Houchen, Kelly Mathieson and Liam Tamne.
Joining them are Tony Award winner Laura Benanti and Olivier nominated West End and Broadway star Julian Ovenden.
The recording, produced by Nigel Wright, will lead up to a semi-staged concert performance in London’s West End, directed by Broadway’s JoAnn M. Hunter.
Jo, played by Allado, is portrayed as a writer and advocate for her generation, making her story about family, resilience, and self-discovery as timely as ever.
Composer Dan Redfeld says: “It’s always been our hope for Jo – The Little Women Musical to be heard around the world the way we intended – with an international cast of stellar artists and 29-piece orchestra. For that to come to fruition in a full Studio Album is a dream come true.”
Book writers Harding and Koladziej added: “Assembling such a talented group of performers to bring our material to life is truly thrilling. We are excited to share our new interpretation of Louisa May Alcott’s timeless classic with a multi-generational audience.”
Following the recording and initial track releases, the production team plans to announce details for the semi-staged concert in the West End. The album will be released by Grammy-winning label Center Stage Records, ahead of the 2025 premiere.
