Miranda and Davis said: “We’ve spent the past three years musicalising the Warriors’ journey home, from the South Bronx to Coney Island.

“Along the way we’ve gotten to work with a lot of our favourite artists, and we’ll be announcing their roles on the album in the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to share these songs with you on October 18.”

It was first revealed in 2023 that Miranda was working on a musical version of the story, which was turned into a 1979 film.

Exploring urban gang culture set in New York City, The Warriors follows the Coney Island Dominators, a street gang, as they navigate a treacherous journey through rival gang territories to make it back to their home turf after being wrongly accused of a high-profile murder.

The musical would mark Miranda’s first full stage production since the premiere of Hamilton.

Most recently, the composer-lyricist has been working on film projects including tick, tick… BOOM! for Netflix and Disney’s Encanto and live action remake of The Little Mermaid.

He also contributed additional lyrics to new Broadway musical New York, New York, based loosely on the 1977 film and featuring original songs from John Kander and Fred Ebb.
