Carly Rae Jepsen to score 10 Things I Hate About You musical

Call Me Maybe singer Carly Rae Jepsen is writing the score for a musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You.

Details are scarce, but the project is in development for a Broadway run with Lena Dunham penning the book.

Industrial presentations have recently (February 2026) been taking place in New York as the show steps nearer to the stage.

So far, there’s no word on casting or whether the storyline will stick closely to the much-loved 1999 film starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.

For those who need a refresher, 10 Things I Hate About You is a modern-day take on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

The original film follows high-schooler Cameron, who is desperate to date Bianca – except there’s one problem: Bianca’s strict father won’t let her date until her older sister, Kat, does.

Enter Patrick Verona, a rebellious bad boy who is roped into winning over Kat in a scheme that – predictably -doesn’t go to plan.

For Dunham, known for creating Girls, this will be her first foray into Broadway.

Meanwhile, Jepsen is no stranger to musical theatre – she played Cinderella on Broadway in 2014 and has a knack for crafting catchy, emotional pop anthems.
