Mischief Announces First Musical Comedy, Thespians

Mischief is taking a big step into new territory with Thespians, their first-ever musical comedy.

From the makers of The Play That Goes Wrong and Peter Pan Goes Wrong, the new show will launch on a limited 9-week UK tour starting May 2026.

The world premiere kicks off at Mercury Theatre Colchester, before heading to venues in Bath, Swindon, Guildford, Cheltenham, Cardiff and Manchester.

Written by Mischief co-founder Jonathan Sayer and composer Ed Zanders, Thespians takes audiences back to 534 BC, where the smallest island in Greece is fighting to survive a nationwide prayer contest.

But things take a wild turn when one man, Thespis, accidentally invents acting, sparking the very first play in history.

With classic Mischief-style comedy, quick chaos, sharp one-liners, and big musical numbers Thespians offers a fresh and funny take on the origins of theatre.

Director and choreographer details are still under wraps, and casting will be announced later.
