Neil Patrick Harris and Julianne Hough Will Lead Damn Yankees Broadway Revival
A Broadway favorite is making its return to New York next spring, more than 30 years after its last revival.
Neil Patrick Harris will play Applegate in Damn Yankees, alongside Julianne Hough as Lola and Austin Scott as Young Joe.
Hough previously appeared on Broadway in POTUS, but this will be her first musical on the Broadway stage. Scott’s previous credits include Hamilton and & Juliet.
Set in the early 2000s, the new version follows Joe Boyd, a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan who dreams of seeing his team return to winning form. When a charming stranger offers him a chance to change everything, Joe makes a deal that could give him a second shot at his dreams. Of course, there’s a catch.
The production is directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, following a sold-out run at Arena Stage in Washington.
Will Power and Doug Wright have written the updated book, with additional lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Major League Baseball is also involved as a producing partner, marking a first for a Broadway musical.
Damn Yankees begins previews at the Marquis Theatre on 24 March 2027, ahead of its official opening on 20 April.
Tickets are on sale now, with more casting expected to be announced soon.
