Novelist Gregory Maguire is expanding the world of Oz once more.

The celebrated author behind Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West just revealed his latest novel, Galinda: A Charmed Childhood, coming September 29, 2026.

This new book puts the spotlight on Galinda, chronicling her early years and serving as a companion story to 2025’s Elphie: A Wicked Childhood, which delved into Elphaba’s backstory.

While details on the plot are still under wraps, we do know the book checks in at 256 pages and will first appear as a deluxe limited edition and is available to pre-order here.

Wicked fans will remember that Maguire’s original novel first hit shelves in 1995 before it exploded into a blockbuster stage musical in 2003.

After the release of the first Wicked film part in November 2024 – which scored 10 Oscar nominations and took home trophies for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design – the saga is thriving on the big screen, too.

Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda became instant icons, with both earning nods for their performances.

Now, Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated sequel, is enchanting theaters again, featuring Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode alongside Cynthia and Ariana.

Meanwhile, Maguire’s original Wicked novel recently enjoyed a resurgence, reaching #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list in December, over two decades after its debut.

The enduring appeal of Oz continues, both onstage and on bookshelves.
