The curtain may have fallen on the record-breaking revival of Once Upon a Mattress, but the show’s magic is far from over.

Sutton Foster, Michael Urie, and the star-studded Broadway cast of the acclaimed New York City Center Encores! production are heading into the recording studio at the end of January.

The much-anticipated cast album will be released on 28 March 2025 by Center Stage Records and Shout! Broadway.

This revival, directed by Lear deBessonet, recently completed a four-week run at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, breaking box office records and earning rave reviews.

The album will feature the entire Hudson Theatre cast, led by Sutton Foster as the irrepressible Princess Winnifred. Joining her are Michael Urie as the hapless Prince Dauntless, Ana Gasteyer as the domineering Queen Aggravain, and David Patrick Kelly as King Sextimus the Silent.

The cast also includes Nikki Renée Daniels as Lady Larken, Will Chase as Sir Harry, Daniel Breaker as the Jester, and Brooks Ashmanskas as the Wizard.

The ensemble includes Daniel Beeman, Wendi Bergamini, Taylor Marie Daniel, Cicily Daniels, Ben Davis, Sheldon Henry, Oyoyo Joi, Amanda LaMotte, Sarah Michele Lindsey, Michael Olaribigbe, Adam Roberts, Jeffrey Schecter, Darius Wright, and Richard Riaz Yoder.

The recording is produced by an award-winning team: Amy Sherman-Palladino (of Gilmore Girls fame), Tony-winner Adam Guettel, Grammy-winner Lawrence Manchester, and Jenny Gersten. Executive producers Van Dean and Douglas Denoff round out this powerhouse lineup.

With orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin and music supervision by Encores! Music Director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, the album promises to deliver the same infectious energy that lit up stages in New York and Los Angeles.

Once Upon a Mattress reimagines Hans Christian Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea, blending classic storytelling with sharp wit and irreverent humour. The musical debuted in 1959, launching the career of Carol Burnett, and has since become a staple for theatre enthusiasts around the world.

This revival includes a fresh book adaptation by Amy Sherman-Palladino and choreography by Lorin Latarro, with eye-catching designs by David Zinn (scenic design), Andrea Hood (costumes), and Kai Harada (sound).
