The Broadway production team behind Six: The Musical is voicing zero tolerance for bullying after their latest casting news sparked a wave of transphobic comments online.
Last week, the show made headlines by casting TikTok personality Dylan Mulvaney as Anne Boleyn, marking the first time an openly trans performer will play a Queen on Broadway.
The announcement, however, came with an outpouring of hostile remarks across the show’s social platforms.
Responding quickly, the Six team temporarily restricted access to their Broadway X account and have issued a firm statement against the hate.
Six’s Statement in Full
The producers of Six have chosen to temporarily limit access to the Broadway production’s X account following a number of comments made in response to recent Broadway casting news, which we felt crossed the line into bullying.
The protection, safety, and support of the Six cast has always been, and remains, our highest priority.
While we welcome passionate engagement with the show, aggressive, threatening or abusive behavior is never acceptable.
As a production, we unequivocally condemn bullying in all its forms and remain committed to fostering a respectful, supportive environment for everyone involved.
We are incredibly excited to welcome our incoming Broadway cast, and we cannot wait to see them take to the stage.
Dylan, herself no stranger to the spotlight, addressed fans and followers in an Instagram video.
She described stepping onto a Broadway stage as a trans woman as a “miracle,” and offered words of encouragement to queer and trans youth, telling them, “you can literally do anything.”
Dylan joins the cast on February 16, with Abigail Barlow stepping in as Katherine Howard. Original cast favorites Adrianna Hicks and Anna Uzele are set to return as Catherine of Aragon and Catherine Parr, while Olivia Donalson continues as Anna of Cleves.
