A legendary West End recording is getting a new life 40 years after it was first made.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has returned to the original tapes for a major anniversary release.

And this time, fans will get more of the score than ever before.

The Phantom of the Opera: The Andrew Lloyd Webber 2026 Mix has been created from the original analogue tapes, recorded at Abbey Road back in 1986.

Available on 2CD, 3LP and Collector’s Box Set, the new mix brings fresh clarity to the performances of Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton.

The Vinyl release will now run across three records instead of two with parts of the score cut from the original release finally restored while rare early demos will also be included.

Limited six-LP box set

You can pre-order the new releases here.

Reflecting on returning to the recording after 40 years, Andrew said: “Mixing the album I made 40 years ago was an extraordinary experience,” adding that working with the original material made it feel as though the performers were back in the studio with him.

Collectors will also be able to get a limited six-LP box set, with only 2,026 copies being produced.

It will bring the new mix together with the movie soundtrack and Masquerade orchestral recording alongside special archive material.

Our first chance to hear the new mix comes this Friday, 18 September, when the title song is released.

The complete digital album arrives on 9 October 2026 — exactly 40 years after The Phantom of the Opera first opened in London.
