Work is well underway on a live action adaptation of Disney’s Tangled, with filming due to start in summer 2026 in the UK.

The animated film featured a voice cast of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy with award-winning songs from Alan Menken and Glenn Slater.

There have been no shortage of rumors over who will be cast in the live-action remake and screen tests are reportedly underway now in London, per THR.

For Rapunzel, the contenders include Sarah Catherine Hook, familiar from The White Lotus, Teagan Croft (recognizable from DC’s Titans), Freya Skye (who made her feature debut in Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires) and Olivia-Mai Barrett from Apple’s Invasion.

Stepping into the boots of Flynn Rider, Disney tested Milo Manheim, a leading face in the Zombies franchise, alongside Charlie Gillespie, known for Julie and the Phantoms and Splitsville, and Scottish actor Gilli Jones.

The infamous Mother Gothel also remains to be cast after the previously attached Scarlett Johansson stepped away to shoot new projects.

Helming the project is director Michael Gracey, who brought The Greatest Showman to screen.

There’s no word yet on if the film will feature any new songs.

Filming is said to be aimed for June 2026 in the UK.

Meanwhile Tangled composer Alan Menken recently teased a possible full stage adaptation of the film.

Speaking of bringing the film to Broadway, which was previously adapted for Disney’s Cruise Line with new songs, the maestro shared: “We’re already talking about it for the stage”.

Filed with enchanting visuals and heartwarming storytelling, Tangled follows Rapunzel, a spirited young woman with impossibly long hair, as she embarks on a thrilling adventure beyond the confines of her tower.

Teaming up with the roguish Flynn Rider, Rapunzel discovers the world outside and learns about her true identity.
