Donny Osmond as Joseph in the 1999 film

Sir Tim Rice isn’t slowing down.

At 80 years old, the legendary lyricist behind some of the most beloved musicals of all time is juggling a slate of new projects while reflecting on his remarkable career.

In a recent interview with Irish News, Rice opened up about teaming up once again with Andrew Lloyd Webber to write new material for a movie adaptation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The show, originally created as a school performance piece, launched the duo into superstardom.

The new film will mark the first adaptation since the 1999 TV movie starring Donny Osmond.

Further details on the project are to be announced.

Meanwhile, fans of Chess will be thrilled to know that the musical, co-written with ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, is making its way back to Broadway in 2025.

The original 1988 production in New York was a critical and commercial mixed bag, but the show has since earned cult status through concert performances and international productions.

For now, Rice is preparing to hit the road with his new tour, My Life in Musicals – I Know Him So Well.

The show will feature hits from his extraordinary repertoire, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and Chess, as well as music from Disney classics like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.

It’s a celebration of a career that helped redefine musical theatre, and audiences can expect to hear behind-the-scenes stories from Rice himself.
