A new video from D23 has given us the clearest sign yet that a much-loved Disney film is still heading for the stage.
At the event, Disney shared a first listen to fresh music from the full stage version of Tangled, with Alan Menken playing a new song live at the piano.
The song was written by Menken with Glenn Slater, the same pair behind the film’s music, including “When Will My Life Begin?” and “I See the Light”.
In the clip, Menken plays the new track for the D23 crowd, giving us a small taste of how the 2010 film may grow when it gets a full stage run.
Us Tangled fans already know the story has been on stage before, since a shorter hour long version plays on Disney Cruise Line ships.
The new full show would be a much bigger take on Rapunzel’s story, with room for more songs and more time with the world fans first met in the film.
There is still no word yet on who will lead the cast, when the show could open, or where Disney plans to put it on stage.
At the same time, Disney is still working on a live-action Tangled film, with Kathryn Hahn confirmed to be playing Mother Gothel alongside Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.
