The highly anticipated West End debut of The Devil Wears Prada The Musical is just around the corner, opening this December at the Dominion Theatre.
Ahead of the curtain rising, new production images have been released, offering a dazzling first look at the show.
Leading the cast is Vanessa Williams, famed for her unforgettable roles in Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, as well as her illustrious music career. She takes on the formidable role of Miranda Priestly, fashion’s queen of icy authority.
Joining her is Olivier Award-winning Matt Henry (Kinky Boots) as Nigel, Runway magazine’s savvy Creative Fashion Director.
Georgie Buckland (Shrek The Musical, Bedknobs and Broomsticks) steps into the role of Andy, making her West End debut as the plucky young journalist at the heart of the story.
Amy Di Bartolomeo (SIX, We Will Rock You) portrays Miranda’s frosty assistant Emily, while James Darch (Mamma Mia!, Wicked) plays the slippery journalist Christian, and Rhys Whitfield (The Phantom of the Opera) stars as Andy’s boyfriend Nate.
Completing the cast are Maddy Ambus, Gabby Antrobus, Selena Barron, Pamela Blair, Robertina Bonano, Josh Damer-Jennings, Lloyd Davies, Elishia Edwards, Akeem Ellis-Hyman, Elizabeth Fullalove, Jinny Gould, Natasha Heyward, Samuel How, Luke Jackson, Debbie Kurup, Liam Marcellino, Ciro Lourencio Meulens, Theo Papoui, Christopher Parkinson, Eleanor Peach, Ethan Le Phong, Jon Reynolds, Harriet Samuel-Gray, Olivia Saunders, Kayleigh Thadani, Ella Valentine, Rhys Whitfield and Tara Yasmin.
This production boasts a creative dream team. Elton John (Billy Elliot: The Musical, The Lion King) pens the music, with lyrics by Shaina Taub (Suffs) and Mark Sonnenblick (Theatre Camp). Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde) directs and choreographs.
Design elements include set design by Tim Hatley (Life of Pi, Back to the Future), costumes by Gregg Barnes (Some Like It Hot), and lighting by Bruno Poet (The Tina Turner Musical). Sound is designed by Gareth Owen (Come From Away).
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestseller and the hit 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada follows Andy, a young journalist who lands a coveted job at Runway, fashion’s ultimate powerhouse magazine.
As she navigates Miranda Priestly’s impossible demands and the seductive allure of the fashion world, Andy faces a defining question: how far will she go to achieve success, and is it worth the cost?
