The Broadway cast of Smash has hit the recording studio, and we’ve got an early listen to “Let Me Be Your Star”.

The song, a favorite from the original NBC series, will appear multiple times in the stage adaptation, evolving into the showstopper that earned a 2012 Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

The new musical begins previews at the Imperial Theatre on March 11, with an official opening set for April 10. A cast album is also in the works, set to be released by Concord Theatricals Recordings on a date yet to be announced.

Leading the cast are Robyn Hurder as Ivy and Caroline Bowman as Karen, alongside a stellar ensemble that includes Brooks Ashmanskas, Krysta Rodriguez, John Behlmann, Kristine Nielsen, Jacqueline B. Arnold, Bella Coppola, Casey Garvin, and Nicholas Matos in his Broadway debut. The show’s book is written by Rick Elice and Bob Martin, with music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote many of the songs for the original series.

Five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman directs, with Joshua Bergasse returning as choreographer. The creative team also includes Beowulf Boritt on set design, Alejo Vietti on costumes, and Ken Billington on lighting. Casting is by Bernard Telsey and Kristian Charbonier, with 101 Productions, Ltd. serving as general manager.
