Step into a world of toe-tapping tunes and Golden Age musical magic as Schmigadoon! has made its leap from screen to stage.
The new adaptation of the hit Apple TV series has officially premiered at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with performances running through February 9.
Directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, the production brings to life the whimsical and satirical world that first enchanted TV audiences.
The stage version features a book, music and lyrics by the show’s creator, Cinco Paul, and includes all the Grammy-nominated songs from the original series plus new numbers.
Leading the cast are Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice) as Josh Skinner and Sara Chase (The Great Gatsby) as Melissa Gimble.
They are joined by Kevin Del Aguila (Some Like It Hot), McKenzie Kurtz (Wicked), Isabelle McCalla (Water for Elephants), Javier Muñoz (Hamilton), Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!), Emily Skinner (Suffs) and Ryan Vasquez (The Notebook). Ann Harada reprises her role from the series as Florence Menlove.
Following the plot of Schmigadoon!’s first season, the musical follows real-world couple Josh and Melissa as they find themselves trapped in Schmigadoon, a magical town where life plays out like a classic musical. The show is packed with nods to Broadway classics like Oklahoma!, The Music Man and Carousel.
