Rocky Horror fans got a Broadway moment that people in the room will be talking about for a long time.
The current revival of The Rocky Horror Show turned its recent show at Studio 54 into a tribute to Tim Curry, the star who first brought Dr. Frank-N-Furter to life.
Luke Evans, the revival’s original Tony-nominated Frank-N-Furter, walked out on stage with Jake Shears, who is set to take over the role on September 11.
They joined current Frank-N-Furter Paul Soileau for a moving version of “I’m Going Home”, and the crowd was already cheering before the first note.
The night also included a large photo of Curry at Studio 54, with candles and gifts placed around it by fans who wanted to mark what he meant to them.
Paul Soileau gave a speech at the curtain, and it was clear how much the role still means to the cast and crowd.
Soileau said: “Many people in this room on this stage have been a vessel for Frank-N-Furter, and over the years.
“But if you trace it all back, 53 years ago, there’s one home and one vessel, one mothership, that Frank-N-Furter could actually call home and it’s Tim Curry. It’s truly beautiful.’.”
